Crop an Amazon product image above the 1000 px zoom threshold

Amazon states a range rather than one size: the longest side may be between 500 and 10,000 pixels, and zoom turns on when the image is larger than 1,000 pixels on each side. The main image must sit on a pure white RGB 255, 255, 255 background, with the product filling 85% or more of the frame. This page opens at 1600x1600 — a square chosen to clear the zoom threshold with room to spare, not a size Amazon names — and exports JPEG, the format Amazon prefers. Keep both sides above 1,000 pixels

Zoom is what lets a buyer inspect the product, and it only appears when the image is larger than 1,000 pixels on each side. Starting at 1600x1600 keeps you clear of the line even after you decide to crop tighter, and the output line always shows what the file will be.

  • Amazon accepts a longest side from 500 up to 10,000 pixels.
  • Below the zoom threshold the listing still works, but the buyer cannot magnify the photo.
  • Enlarging a small photo to pass the threshold adds pixels, not detail.

Fill 85% of the frame with the product

Amazon asks for the product to occupy at least 85% of the image. Scale the photograph up until the product nearly touches the edges of the square, leaving only a thin margin, then nudge it into the centre.

Keep the frame inside the photograph

The white background of a main image has to come from the photograph itself. Cropy crops, resizes, and encodes; it does not add or replace a background, so an area of the frame that falls outside your photo is not white. Keep the whole frame on top of the image.
